About

Hi, I'm David.

I picked up the guitar over 20 years ago and never put it down — rock, blues, pop, prog, fusion, acoustic. These days I play, write, and teach out of my home studio in Santa Rosa. I start with music you actually want to learn, then use those songs to build real skills — technique, theory, fretboard knowledge, improvisation, songwriting, and how to apply those ideas to other music.

Lessons are practical, relaxed, and built around your goals, whether you’re a beginner, getting back into guitar, or trying to break through a plateau. I also work as an audio engineer — so if you want to record and produce your own music, we can do that here too.

Students

What students say

David is a patient and fun teacher who takes time to ask me what my goals are and what types of songs I want to play. I admit I don't practice as often as I should, but David never makes me feel guilty, and I always leave a lesson feeling like a much better player. Give him a try — you will be happy you did!

Eli Eisen · student of 5 years, in person & Zoom

I've known David for over 10 years, and he's been my go-to guitar teacher and music guide the whole time. He's taught me a ton of my favorite songs, from 311 to No Doubt, and introduced me to music I never would have found on my own. He's patient, deeply knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about helping people get better. Highly recommended.

Ian B. · student of 10+ years

David is an insane player and a seriously creative musician. He's composed and recorded guitar parts for content I produce, and every time he delivers something more interesting, more polished, and more exciting than I could have imagined. He brings a rare mix of technical skill, taste, and creativity to everything he works on.

Advanced study

For advanced players

Technique is a big part of what I do. If you want to go deep — picking mechanics, legato, tapping, any of it — we'll slow things down, figure out what's happening in your hands, and build it back up clean.

Then put it to use in real music.

FAQ

Questions before you book

Do I need to already own a guitar?

No — bring whatever you've got, or nothing. We'll figure out the right instrument together.

I've never played anything in my life. Is that a problem?

Not a problem — plenty of students start from zero.

What ages do you teach?

All ages are welcome.

What's the difference between in-person and online lessons?

In person you get my full studio. Online you get clear camera angles on both hands. Either way: tabs and a recap after every session.

Can we work on a specific song or artist I like?

That's usually where we start.

Can you help me record and produce my own music?

Yes — I work as an audio engineer, and the studio is set up for recording, producing, and mixing your own songs.
